Cover artwork: detail from Weavers by Lynette Riley, 2010. The image used on the cover is taken from a kangaroo cloak (etching/poker work). It is inspired by a traditional story, provided by Kathy Marika, in a dance performance by Bangarra Dance Company (2010), in which people learnt the skills of weaving by studying spiders, and then created woven mats for sitting on and shelter. The woven mat is an ultimate example of the skills of weaving learnt by careful observation and working together; a well-wrought mat is a beautiful creation. This is also a symbol of what can happen when people work together productively, such as through community-led programs and research; they create a common and clear focus, they start with a small step and end up with something that can sustain and protect them for years.
